I dont want this to stray too far off topic by getting into Nordic stuff.
There are a number of books I could recomend like
Viking Weapons & Warfare by J. Kim Siddorn &
Swords of the Viking Age by Ian Peirce and Ewart Oakeshott.

There is a fantastic site here ( http://www.hurstwic.org/library/arms_in_sagas/weapon_use_summary.htm ) that catalogs almost every bit of martial material contained in the Viking Sagas.

The project I was working on was being a historical consultant and fight choreographer for a smaller budget film that was about Alfred the Great and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles. I have alot of notes and research from working on this, but when I read truly landmark works like Mr. Oakeshott's book I realize that I have very little information that he has not already written and much better than I ever could.

If you want to chat more about this please feel free to email me off list so we dont detract from the purpose of this elist.

  Thanks,
  Allen

  Allen,

Now you have my curiosity piqued. I have enjoyed the
questions (and responses) concerning martial arts.

Where can I read about the Nordic fighting system?
Did you have a thesis or publish a paper?

Are you aware of any native American martial arts that
survived into historic times?

Thanks.
