Dr. Jaime Awe, director of the Belize Institute of Archaeology,
announced at the Belize Archaeology Conference on Friday that a
new codex was confiscated by the FBI in Atlanta recently. The
people trying to sell it apparently had radio carbon dated
it and it dated to the LATE CLASSIC. The people it was
confiscated from were sending pictures etc off to various
people, again trying to authenticate it and someone at Harvard
turned them in to the FBI. No pictures have been released to
the public to date. It may have come from (was looted from)
a cave in Belize, and Jaime Awe is working with the FBI to get
it returned to Belize. Amazingly, the codex stands
approximately 3 feet tall and quite long.

This is all still a bit sketchy and the only report to date is
the announcement Awe made at the meeting to a general audience of
archaeologists and the public. I am sure more information will
become available soon.
