[Aztlan] Anyone in Veracruz?

So, here I am, having followed a 4-year obsession with a kid from
Tehuantepec into a half-finished novel and a new domicile in Xalapa, and I'm
wondering whether there are any of you either in or planning visits to the
Veracruz area during the next 3-4 months?  Somewhat ridiculously drove the
old Tacoma all the way down from Vermont, so I've got wheels and am planning
a number of excursions in the area and would love some knowledgable company,
or any company, or just anyone interested in getting together to talk about
the 16th century, issues relating to indigenous people in Mestizo society,
or just to knock back a few tequilas and complain about the heat.

And by the way, having not seen any of the mentioned images of porters
carrying people in chairs, I must ask this dumb question, if only because a
negative answer would be so remarkable: they were carried backwards, right?
