Tameme, the Nahuat(l) loan to Spanish, also shows up in the US  
Southeast, where De Soto's chroniclers used the term to describe  
local porters, e.g., "the cacique gave him 400 tamemes, the Indians  
that carry burdens."  The influence of Mexico is also visible in the  
fact that all the Spanish materials used in missionizing among the in  
Timucua (north and central Florida) were printed by the same Mexico  
City printer that did the Nahuatl materials, and the Florida  
translations were said to be done "on the model of the Mexican ones."
