Hello Listeros,
For those of you interested in the history of the biology of Central American, I thought that I would share an awesome webpage that I have just discovered that is sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute. Many of you may remember the Biologia Centrlia-American because of the well-known Appendices put together by Alfred Maudslay where he published his major works on the archaeology of Central America.
Well, the longer part of the Biologia is the actual information on the flora and fauna. The following is an exact quote from the Smithsonian webpage that I am writing about.
Electronic Biologia Centrali-Americana
"This digital edition of the important and out-of-print Biologia Centrali-Americana makes all 58 biological volumes available. Description of over 50,000 and images of over 18,000 species of animals and plants are now accessible as never before. This is the first step towards an extraordinary new set of electronic resources and knowledge tool for biodiversity studies - the Biologica Centrali-Americana Centennial."
Go to http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollections/bca/ and from there go to BCA Digital Edition and you can download images (educational and non-profit usage).
Enjoy,
Elaine
