Yes Jean Pierre, I had read of the US/British forces occupying Babylon and
the incredible destruction they caused. The British Museum filed a report
of the damage. I read it and distributed among my colleagues in archaeology
and museums.
I think you can google the report, or maybe I can dredge it up from my
archives and repost it. It is quite disturbing to know how much invasion,
intrusion, and damage occurred. At the time I even sent a copy of it to
Barack Obama, my senator who was formerly affiliated with the University of
Chicago (major archaeology dept with ties to some of the excavations) to see
if anyone would take any responsibility for it. Sheesh, me and my altruism!
If my suspicions of the current American political administration hold true,
I would think the occupation and desecration of this world heritage site was
a way to demoralize the people of the region.
