I can't really comment on Volemaere's Aztlan speculations, but I can 
report that his views on the Maya are very far from the mainstream --- 
He has his own "decipherment" of the script, which is at odds with most 
everyone else, he rejects the GMT correlation with the Maya calendar, 
again in favour of his own correlation and chronology, and he denies 
that that any sort of collapse of Classical civilization occurred.
