I have already thanked Mike Ruggeri for his regular gfts of information
about archaeology in genera but, I want to bring up a subject we don't talk
about very often.

In the work by Subiro Sugiyama there is I think finally enough data about
Teotihuacan and its means of government (rather cruel) and the area covered
by its empire. In sugiyamas work there is perhaps barely enough confirmation
about the areas included in Teotihuacan's empire from people from Southern
Guatamala to Northern Mexico mostly being savagly butchered in Public. It
seem that with the Fall of El Mirador which Hansen showed had war tools from
Teotihuacan on it's surface to the end of the Classic period of the Mayans
and the Collapse of Teotihuacan itself The Mayan "empire" was a collection
of City states uder the Hegemony of Teotihuacan with Teotihuacan
manipulating these city states one against the other but not interfering
with the religion or the Language of these City states. A system of control
similar to that of the later (somewhat smaller) area dominated by the
Azrtecs as shown by Ross Hassig's excellant work.

Prior to the fall of El Mirador the Mayan area was more clearly unified in
religion, Language, Agriculture, and the Military under the more direct
control of El Mirador. as best shown by the rise and fall of Cerros a well
researched (but not well understood outpost) at the time of El Mirador.
