Listeros,

A fellow listero reminded me of this story which I had in my archives
regarding an Olmec skeletal find with canoes dating to 1000 BC. Here
is the story;

Ancient Skeletons Discovered In Southern Mexico

POSTED: 3:47 pm CDT June 17, 2004

U.S. scientists have discovered skeletons in southern Mexico that
could be more than 3,000 years old.

The scientists believe the three skeletons found in the Chiapas
region were Olmeca chiefs.

The skeletons were found lying in two canoes in two tombs, side by side.

This is just the latest discovery in the area. Researchers have
previously uncovered instruments and jade artifacts, also from the
Olmeca people.

I am wondering if this impacts the story we posted last week on the
earliest Mesoamerican canoe found in Belize. The canoes holding the
Olmec skeletons may not be canoes from 2000 BC but we do not have the
full details. Does anyone on the list know of this earlier find and
have information on those canoes?
