[Aztlan] Query: Mesoamerican colleague protocol

They usually hash it out over a series of three to four journal publications, so that the different sides have a forum to make their points (and so that the publication sections of their resumes get filled). Oh, and they usually argue back and forth with papers at SAA panels or at the hotel bars for a year or two. Depending on the positions held by the colleagues with differing opinions, reinforcements and adjoining articles/papers by people agreeing with those colleagues may be published as well. The tone of the papers and articles can range from respectful and collegial to downright rude and unprofessional.

Ok, that comes off as a little snarky, but from what ive seen its fairly accurate.
