Hola Listeros,

The second volume of a critically important work on the archaeology of the Huasteca has recently appeared and I want to alert potential purchasers before it goes out of print. TAMTOK: SITIO ARQUEOLOGICO HUASTECO by Claude and Guy Stresser-Péan is the final report of the long term archaeological project by the French Center for Mexican and Central American Studies at that major site in San Luis Potosi. Together, the two volumes form (in my estimation) the only complete site report available for the Huasteca and one of the best on ANY Mesoamerican research project in the past 50 years. Volumes One, SU HISTORIA, SUS EDIFICIOS, and Two, SU VIDA COTIDIANA, contain complete descriptions of the excavations, monuments, pottery, artifacts, etc. Both are lavishly illustrated with photographs and lines drawings, texts are in Spanish with French summaries. The publishers are a consortium of Mexican and French institutions. The ISBN numbers are 968-6029-72-9 for Vol. 1 and 968-6029-80-X for Vol. 2. I purchased mine in Mexico City but they are available in the US from the University of Pittsburgh Latin American Archaeology Publication on-line outlet. Every research university library needs to have these and if you are only ever to have one thing on the Huasteca in your personal library, this should be it. However, I would buy it soon, the run was 2,000 copies and I can only imagine how many politicos have already received free copies for their coffee tables.

Dick
