Good Morning Listeros,
As many of you are probably aware, the Maya Meetings at Austin have had a
long tradition of selling a Maya Meetings T-Shirt with a logographic or
hieroglyphic theme, based upon site/topic of the meetings. T-shirts were
available at the meetings and they sold very well. For the past 2 or 3
years however, the T-shirts have not been selling well, which means that we
have money tied up in inventory, but we continue to try to sell the old ones
at each of the subsequent meetings. Because of the difficulties of moving
these items based upon last 2 or 3 years, we are trying something different
this time, something totally outside the box from how we have done things
in the past.
Instead of trying to estimate how many and what size T-shirts we need to
have available at the meetings, we are instead using a third-party website
called Café Press to let people order them on their own, where they can be
directly shipped to the customers door. In addition to T-shirts, you can
order coffee mugs, mouse pads, sweatshirts, and many other items. We have
even sent them the logo theme for the meetings - this time it is the
entwined quetzal and macaw from the Margareta Temple at Copan. Many thanks
to UT graduate student Lucia Henderson for the drawing. Here is the webpage
link: http://www.cafepress.com/08mayameetings.
10% of the proceeds of these items go to the outreach efforts of the Maya
Meetings. We do not plan to sell the new shirts at the meetings, but instead
we will have a computer set up where people can order them online to be
delivered to home addresses at a later date. If you would like be able to
wear a Maya Meetings T-shirt (or other Maya Meeting apparel) at the meeting,
you will need to order the items online well ahead of the meeting date
through the webpage and the items will come directly to the address you
indicate (home, office, etc).
Please let me know if you have questions.
