Along with Dillehay's book just mentioned, I'd recommend looking at some of
the back-and-forth on the topic. These are some of the publications (by
date) that trace in detail the 'peopling debate' as spurned by Niede Guidon
and others' work at the site of Pedra Furada (Piauí, Brazil). This goes back
twenty-one years, but is characteristic of the discourse.
Guidon, Niède, and Georgette Delibrias. "Carbon-14 dates Point to Man in the
Americas 32,000 Years Ago." Nature 321 (June 19, 1986): 769-71.
Bray, Warwick. "Finding the First Americans." Nature 321 (June 19, 1986):
726.
Guidon, Niède, and B. Arnaud. "The Chronology of the New World: Two Faces of
One Reality." World Archaeology 23 (1991)2:167-78.
Meltzer, David J., James M. Adovasio and Tom D. Dillehay. "On a Pleistocene
Human Occupation at Pedra Furada, Brazil." Antiquity 68 (1994): 695-714.
Borrero, Luis Alberto. "Human and Natural Agency: Some Comments on Pedra
Furada." Antiquity 69 (1995): 602-03.
Guidon, N., A.-M. Pessis, Fabio Parenti, Michel Fontugne, Claude Guérin.
"Nature and Age of Deposits in Pedra Furada, Brazil: Reply to Meltzer,
Adovasio & Dillehay." Antiquity 70 (1996): 408-21.
Watanabe, S, Feria Ayta, Hamaguchi, Guidon, La Salvia, Maranca, and Baffa
Filho. "Some evidence of a date of first humans to arrive in Brazil."
Journal of Archaeological Science 30 (2003):351-354.

A friend of mine has asked me to recommend a book that summarizes the
latest findings (in the last twenty years) on the peopling of the Americas.
I can also track down and photocopy summary articles for him. Without
yanking on a controversial thread, any suggestions?
