I don't see anything about restricted areas in the online pages devoted 
to Ek Balam, but many sites in Mexico no longer permit visitors to climb 
on the ruins. Usually permission to do so can usually be arranged at the 
sites. It will be useful to have a convincing explanation of why you 
need to do so along with some kind of id demonstrating that you are a 
scholar or researcher associated with a credible institution.
