The Maya community north of Seville was speculation, based upon some
loan words, not fact. I don't know anything about Maya being brought to
Tortuga but there were plenty of Maya resettled in Jamaica and some in Virginia.
These were Indians caught in slave raids on the Yucatan peninsula by the
Mosquito Indians and sold to the British. Time period was the first half of the
18th century. The Virginia Maya were slaves brought to Virginia from Jamaica.
