Does anyone have the GPS coordinates for San Lorenzo,
La Venta, Tres Zapotes and Laguna de los Cerros. Also all other
mesoamerican archaeological sites?
Using flood models it seems that the coastal Olmec settlements
if there were any, would have been inundated. The question is, are
all of the current Olmec sites well outside of this region. Is it possible
that there were other Olmec settlements. Small portions of the Olmec
society could have been wiped out by natural events, given their
taste for delicacies of the sea, I would guess that they spent a good
amount of time on the coast fishing. In which case they would have
had fishing villages. Did they experience a population decline and if
so would it have led to inter-marriage with in the kinship group?
The reason I mention this is that the were-jaguar babies appear to
me to be mongoloid in appearance. Desperate for wives, they did
what many civilizations before them did, they interbred. The features
of many of the figurines of chubby Olmecs sitting down looking blank faced appear to be mongoloid. I hate to say it, but interbreeding could
have doomed the Olmec. The children of the Olmec would not be able to survive long enough to breed children and the race died out. The rest could have been victims of raiding parties, if so a few of the greatest Olmec may have been kept alive for their knowledge and skills.
