Javier, how do you know that the Olmec didn't have coastal settlements when studies show they cultivated crops near the coast.
Is La Venta protected by mountains far inland or is it on a coastal flood plain. And why did the Olmec go to all the trouble of building raised platforms to build their structures, was it to gain a line of site to other landmarks needed for astronomical observations. I think that their facial features are more Hawaiin or Japanese, in which case they were seafarers and would have taken shelter at the first sign of an approaching Hurricane. So you're right, they diffused, migrated, interbred, fell victime to warfare, were sacrificed or slowly died off due to hereditary flaws that doomed reproduction within the group.
