MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT: Northeast Mesoamerican Epigraphy Group (NutMEG)

On Saturday, February 20, at 1:30pm, Gary Urton and Carrie Brezine will
discuss their work on the khipu at the Bowditch Room in the Peabody Museum (our
usual meeting place at Harvard). In general, the program will focus on where
they are in khipu research at present and what approaches they see as open to
advancing research to the next stage. In particular, they will discuss the
structures of khipus and how they represented numerical and other meanings.
They will explore how meanings can be interpreted in calendrical, census and
administrative contexts. The presentation will include an overview of the
Khipu database by Carrie Brezine, who wrote the data entry application for the
Khipu Database project at
Harvard.

As usual, interested parties will continue the discussion at dinner after
the presentation (around 5:00pm).
