Cfr.: D.M.Urquidi:"The significance seems to be found in the Paris and
Madrid Codex. Both show the turtle as a star concept".
Referring to the Madrid Codex:
1. Pag.M.10a-13a, comparable to the Dresden pag.38b-41b, is an
agrarian calendar which records dry and rainy periods, during 520 days or 2
Tzolkincycles.
Pag.13a Frame 2 shows a turtle in a descending position in the rain. It is
the beginning of an interval of 17 days. From the supporting glyphic is only
T544 visible, the K'in glyph. That is a possible reference to a solar
eclipse.
2. Pag.M.12b-18b, is an extensor calendar.
On pag.17 a turtle marks the beginning of the last Half Year, with the
reference of 4 Etznab 0 Yax, pictured in the rain. The supporting glyphic
text indicates a Half year of abundance. It is also the moment of
respectively the 5th (926 September 16) and 3rd (925 October 27) eclipse.
3. Pag.M.17a Frame 2
Here a blue turtle is depicted with his legs wide open. Here he is used as a
sign.
By the 1st and 3rd interval he is the sign of death. By the 2nd interval he
is the heavenly sign of Itzamna. By the last interval he is royal heir to
the throne.
