AZTLAN Listeros:

Here's a source from the "actun" which may be of interest:

For a further discussion of turtles and turtle iconography in Greater
Mesoamerica and a bit beyond, I published a study entitled
"Transformations of the Mesoamerican Venus Turtle Carapace War
Shield: A Study in Ethnoastronomy" in 2005. A specific complex of
turtle symbolism related to warfare and sacrifice ranging from the
American Great Plains to Panama is explored. You can find it in
Archaeoastronomy Journal Volume 12/13 which was also published as a
book: "Songs from the Sky: Indigenous Astronomical and Cosmological
Traditions of the World" edited by Von Del Chamberlain, John B.
Carlson & M. Jane Young [Ocarina Books $ Center for Archaeoastronomy,
2005 (pages 99 - 122)]. This is a 400-page edited conference
proceedings and is the first volume dealing with world
Ethnoastronomy. There are about 20 papers devoted to topics in Native
American Astronomy. So far, there is no on-line version.
