Folks:
With my previous posts, the west altar turtle seems to agree with the stellar description by having, not only two heads (dragons in the sky to some), but also a skull like faces with strange eyes that probably indicates death . . . to the "death god" (?) (in the West Panel of Palenque) and in the Madrid where the mummy of the death god is next to the Turtle with three "stars" on its back) Or it could be to humans that were caught during the sky battle. . . .
As for the Orion location, it seems to be a misguided direction when the Maya told E. Thompson that "the Turtle was once in the square of Orion." in his prelimiarly studies, a long time ago. David Kelley, Linda S. and Barbara Tedlock picked up that info along with everyone else and made it gospel. . . . but thought that the square meant the body part of Orion when instead,
Chip Morris in San Juan de Chamula had the answer (from Thor Anderson). It seems that they both noticed that the Maya would go to the garden house, remove some of the tiles, look at the stars through the grid that held up the tiles, then replace the ones that they had removed. Jan Adams brought that information home with her after her trip there.
The square where Orion appears would be the same area in the summer when Lyra would appear, or is it at the changing of the position of the sun in late December when the Summer Triangle first appears in the Maya skies.
