[Aztlan] decoding glyphs

anybody know of any web sites  or books worth recommending that have both 
databases and translations for the elements of the glyphs? I'd like to know 
the significance of the different elements that make up particularily the 
Tzolkin & Haab glyphs,  not just a phonetic syllables. For example in what 
context does cross hatching (darkness) occur? Just to be clear i'm not 
looking for the specific answer to that question, more of a direction to 
find those answers.
