Agaves aren't as prolific in the Maya highlands as they are in  
Central Mexico, but they exist, and I suspect people grew enough of  
them to keep them in string.  My Chuj informant from the Cuchumatanes  
told me how to process the leaves to get fiber.  And this is another  
well-distributed word in Mayan languages that reconstructs to Proto- 
Mayan: *kiih.  But I don't know of any dietary usage.
