[Aztlan] Ancient use of chiles

I believe that many of the chile seed and skin remains from southern Puebla
(Tehuacan) and Oaxaca (Guila Naquitz) were retrieved from coprolites. The
some of the signature discoidal seeds bore circular, or curved scarring to
their surfaces ... a pattern attributed to their having been ground in a
molcajete-like mortar. The Puebla-Oaxaca corridor is rich in chile
varieties many of which are, culinarily, associated with that particular
area. It is probably the area of greatest diversity of capsicum annuum
representatives in all of Mexico.
