Quite amazing how many cultures in so many places suffered in the 900 - 1200 ad drought period.  The southwest US, the Tang dynasty in China, Mayaland, and Polynesia (it contributed to the destruction of the Polynesia-wide "Friendly Alliance" that had been meeting in Tahiti for several hundred years) were all profoundly adversely affected by that lengthy weather disturbance.
