The arguement says "but rare in the Highlands" it means that the argue it´s
not closing the chance the find them in those places but only reducing the
chance of find them frequently. So they could be found, but I´m agree, it´s
very hard to find stelae and altars in the highlands.

I have not seen in Zacuelu (Maya-Mam posclassic city); Gumarcaaj
(Maya-Quiché posclassic city) it´s a city still buried so there´s not much
to see around. Iximche (Maya-Cakchiquel posclassic city) is the most worked
and restored city of the highlands but still there´s no steale and altars.
Mixco Viejo (Maya-Pocomam posclassic city) it´s a very nice restored city
but without stelaes and altars. is Kaminal Juyu a highland city? I´m not
sure but this city is the richest city in the region in stelaes and altars.
I saw many stelaes of Kaminal Juyu in the Guatemala Zoo.

At the present there´s no evidence of stelae and altars in the mentioned
region. But certainly there´s a bigger problem, Stelaes and Altars are high
regarded and almost all of this pieces are stealed and selled. Because
there´s a lot of demand of this pieces in the international market and in
the regional market by local and foreign collectors.

The other problem is that, this cities are very erode, soon some cities like
Zaculeu will collapse soon as the result of a inapropiatted restoration
procedure. Maybe once they have had some steales and altars but, or they
were stole and selled or they just disappear by the erosion.

on structures was a common practice in the Peten but rare in the
Highlands". Stelae and Alters in plaza structures had been found in the
site of Nebaj.
