What upsets me most in these intentionally over dramatized
misrepresentations is that they continue to objectify and thus dehumanize
the Maya.  Due to the saturation of such misrepresentations, the complexity
of Maya concepts of time are lost and with them an opportunity at a broader,
truly cross-cultural conversation in which difference is respected rather
than consumed.
