[Aztlan] Baskets, slightly OT

Hi All--
Someone on another list (historical mystery writers) would like to know
if wicker basketry would "last forty years or so in ordinary soil, and
what it would look like to anyone who dug it up. It's brilliant to have
wicker samples preserved for 2000 years, but I don't like to extrapolate
from them, as they seem to have been found in water, bogs, or desert-
dry soil."

Bringing it back to Mesoamerica, I assume that baskets were used by the
Mayans. Do we have any samples, or only glyphic evidence?

Metta,
Ivan
