Brett Watson and I have organized a session for the University of
Calgary's Chac Mool Conference this November that addresses this topic.
It is entitled The Role of Sustenance in the Feasts, Festivals, Rituals
and Every Day Life of Mesoamerica. The intent of this session is to
explore the varieties and types of sustenance utilized in feasts,
festivals, rituals and every day life, and to investigate the social,
political and economic impact that this food and drink had on
Mesoamerican society. The session is intended to include a wide range of
topics that can be specific case studies or more general overviews.
Papers in this session will examine both practical and ideological
conceptualizations of sustenance in the past and present.

Participants include Araceli Aguilar-Melendez, Denise Brown:, Linda
Brown:, Mary Ciaramella, Falken Forshaw:, Kerry Hull:, Robert Laughlin,
Brian Stross:, Andrew Wyatt, George Bey, William Fowler, Geoffrey
McCafferty, Norbert Stanchly, Liz Graham, Anne Pyburn, Michael Carrasco,
Barbara Arroyo, Dorie Reents Budet, Nick Hopkins, Paul Healey, Cameron
McNeil, Michael Carrasco, Judith Strupp Green, Kitty Emery, and John
Staller.
