Greetings --
I just signed on again after being out of the country and saw the discussion about Yucatecan phalli. If anyone wants to converse about my catalog of images or icongraphic interpretations of the divergent collection of phalli I have documented (along with Karl H. Mayer) you may e-mail me individually at lmamrhein at ualr.edu. Along with numerous freestanding Xkeptunich there are portable phalli (amulets, wooden and stone portable examples), "waterspout" phalli, etc.,
In the dissertation, I document and discuss the Chichen phalli (phallic sculptures in the House of Phalli, freestanding monoliths documented from structures 6E5 and 3E6, the Ball Court image and portable examples from the site). I also photographed the Uxmal phalli and provide references (19th century to 2001) that dicuss or note the scattered phalli at the site. As of 2001, there were 12 total freestanding phalli at the site (and in the Museo Regional Antropologia Merida, Yucatan and one attached to the Temple of the Phallus.
Also, (and not to plug my own work either, but may be of some interest) there is a forthcoming article in the Proceedings from the European Association of Mayanists, Malmo, Sweden(2006) "Xkeptunich: The Terminal Classic World Tree, Cosmology and Rulership." I'd be glad to share my article.
Best,
Laura Amrhein
