[Aztlan] Query: Volunteer Options for Teen Groups on the Yucatan Peninsula

Dear Listeros,

I have been asked off-list by a fellow Maya
archaeologist (and part-time youth leader) about
volunteer options in Yucatan, Campeche or Q. Roo for
high school aged youths (accompanied by adult
chaperones, including this particular Maya
archaeologist).

I figured I should ask the gracious 1000+ members of
Aztlan for input.

She is NOT looking for archaeological volunteerism
(this is illegal in Mexico). She is looking for NGO's
working as either relief organizations, public works
project, educational assistance programs, cultural
tourism, or language programs (etc., etc...) that
would expose these U.S. youths to the Maya culture of
the Yucatan peninsula while providing some needed
assistance.

If you run, or know of, a youth volunteer program that
could accommodate a small group of teens led by a Maya
archaeologist, please contact me (off-list) with any
info. "Home Stays" (a few days living with a Maya
family) would be ideal, but all options are being
considered.

If others are also interested in the results of this
query, please let me know and I will re-post the info
I receive in summary form on Aztlan.

-Dave
