Hi Everybody,
My wife grew up in the Tarahumara country of the Mexican State Chihuahua near Carichic. They used a vessel like this to make "tesguino." Here is a link to a small article about teguino: http://www.questconnect.org/tara_tesguino.htm
The Tarahumara are very good runners and believed to have been employed by the Aztecs and others for messenger duty.
We got married in the little church at Carichic. The Tarahumara were having a religious procession that day for the Virgin of Guadalupe. Religious processions are very popular with them just as with the Maya of today. The church was full to the brim with Tarahumara for our wedding.
There are caves on the land my father-in-law once owned for his ranch. The Tarahumara would walk for days and use these caves as a hotel to rest. They always impressed me with their leg strength. They carried huge bundles on their backs and had very large leg muscles. These bundles were carried for long distances.
