[Aztlan] Query: Maya Drums

This is just a random question that sprung to my mind
when viewing the photos of Maya apiaries...

What is / was the Maya term for the hollowed wooden
acoustical drums -- often replicated by modern
artisans as a short section of a tree, hollowed out
with two "teeth" extending over the mid-section of the
drum?

As a former percussionist, I would love any insight
into the pre-Columbian origin of this instrument.

Such instruments have been noted in numerous
publications and replicated in artisan markets of the
Maya area for decades.  It is even mentioned in the
