[Aztlan] mayan/hammock question

  It seems to me that I have seen pictures of hammocks in Asia (hot countries) in the Ntl Geo in an article about bird flue and jungle areas in South America, places where it is too hot for beds to be comfortable. Some of the jungle areas have people that man the smoke pots all night long because of the mosquitos (they don't know about the Mesoamerican solution of lemon/lime juice on the skin, A wonderful repellent). I would think that hamocks are handy for people who have reed houses with strong poles iun humid weather and a lot of trees around when they travel from farm area to farm area as in the Amazon and Orinoco areas.
