According to the "Classical Dictionary of the Nahuatl Language" of
Bernardino de Sahagun,

there is no word like "copan", nor "copantli", nor "quappantli".

But 2 words could be qualified for a "Suspension Bridge":

1.        "Cuauhpanahuaztli"

That means "wooden bridge".

In Esp: "un puenta de madera".(MII,86v).

"Cuah" means: "in wood".

2.        "Cuauhpantli"

According Sah 10,122 this is derived from the word "tocuauhpan",

which means "our hip" or "the hip".

This is a substantivation of place "cuauphan", or on "pantli",

Morp.incorp. "cuahu-(i)-tli"

This word has 3 meanings:

*   wooden bridge;

*   stretcher or litter

(lecho,Camilla)

* part of the body: the "hip" or the "hipbone".

There is a variant to: "cuappantli".
