WE have had a couple of Mountain Lion attacks here in the Santa Fe area
where the person was not jogging or going away from the cat. It is presumed
it had either a kill nearby it was protecting or cubs. Most attacks I have
heard about are ones where the person was running and the attack was
triggered by the reflex to 'chase.' I have kept track and I have never
heard of a cougar eating a person. Perhaps we taste bad.
By the way, a wonderful aside. I have now heard of two families who have
been taken over by wild turkeys. When the people take walks, the turkeys go
along and actually signal when mountain lions are around. A useful trait.
