Institute of Maya Studies Lecture
"Understanding 2012"
IMS Newsletter editor and Maya aficionado Jim Reed has created a
totally new program to explain the Maya Long Count Calendar end date
of December 21, 2012 that is straight forward and for the first time,
in color (featuring real NASA photography). The program will be shown
on the large Planetarium screen at the Miami Science Museum.
This is Reed¹s attempt to fill a vacuum in Maya Studies, a visual
answer to the why and how of the end date of the 13-baktun cycle of
the Maya Long Count. We are amazed at the sophistication and vision
of the ancient New World astronomers, the descendants of whom still
count the days and watch the skies in the remote outback of Guatemala.
