Researchers at Cornell have found that Mesoamericans at Puerto
Escondido in Honduras in elite houses were drinking chocolate before
1100 BCE or 500 years earlier than thought. They were probably
alcoholic drinks made from fermented cacao. The fermenting of the
beans for alcohol may have led to the discovery of the chocolate taste.
