[Aztlan] Reason & Origin for name "Atlantean" Columns

I thought it would be Charnay, but he seems to have used 'Caryatid' more than anything else. Without having lots of early sources handy, I would suggest looking for the term 'Atlantean' after the first excavations at Tula-Hidalgo established the figural columns were male (ie, supporting burdens as Atlas supported the earth) rather than female (as implied by caryatid).

Subject: [Aztlan] Reason & Origin for name "Atlantean" Columns

Dear Listers

I was wondering if anyone can help me track down the origin of the term
"Atlantean" in reference to the columns at Tula. I am curious to find
 out
who first used it and their reason for doing so.

Thanks.

Helen
