Hey all,
Just making sure that those listeros who are not
familiar with these "atlantean" sculptures have some
frame of reference. The first link shows the massive
sculptures from Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico:

Tula has an amazingly similar art style to Chichen
Itza, in Yucatan. Here there are also "atlantean"
figures, but they are more clearly in the "atlas" pose
of holding up a bench:

And here is a photo (now back to Tula, Hidalgo),
showing that similar atlantean figures held up benches
at that site:

Perhaps the larger sculptures were named "atlantean"
after the smaller scultures (truly in an "atlas" pose)
had been noted?
