[Aztlan] Body modification in Mesoamerica

Hola todos:

I have a student who is an accomplished tattoo artist and 
was inspired by Apocalypto to do his term paper on tattoos, 
scarification, and other body modification in Mesoamerica 
(Maya culture specifically).  However, there seems not to be 
a plethora of information available. Could anyone help us 
out with a few sources?
