Fritz and Everybody else:
Isn't it a little hard to say exactly what Moctezuma II was doing with the expedition to Aztlan since they (those in charge of the Empire) had just rewritten the history of the "Aztecs" to fit with their current situation.? There was supposed to be a quote from Tlacaielel (sp?) about this just before he left for Oacaca to supervise the Empiric ambitions from there about the destruction of the previous histories because they would just confuse ordinary folks.? I am not exactly sure where this quote is though.? Anyway you play it, though, Aztlan, and Chicomoztoc? were symbolic stepping stones that, in part,?allowed the Aztecs to?pursue a claim for the overlordship of the Mesoamerican Realm not real history.
Cheers,
Hugh G. "Sam" Ball

What Henry write is, of course correct. But just because the Mexica
believed it existed does not necessarily mean that it is true. There is a
line that exists between widely held beliefs and what serious scholars
accept as true. In this case, Aztlan was a powerful image in Nahua and
Mexica thought but the consensus of opinion among scholars of the field
is there is no credible evidence that such a place really existed.
