She spoke with the guide, don Fausto (did not get his last name), who 
reported that the plaque was made out of concrete by the previous guide 
as a visual aid for explaining the Maya mathematical system to tourists 
and other visitors. Don Fausto had a lot of interesting lore about the 
site to share. She'll write that up for her blog.
