The term "Ox Witik" has puzzled scholars of Copan's archeology for years.
It has been most frequently interpreted as "the three source place" - a
location somewhere in Copan's acropolis. Elizabeth Newsome more
specifically identified it with Copan's temple 22 in her book, "Trees of
Paradise and the Pillars of the World". This paper points to a different
location - the tomb of Yax Kuk Mo. It proposes a more useful translation of
"Ox Witik" would be "cornerstone" as in the cornerstone of the dynasty. See
