Folks:
The following is an interesting example of not search far enough:
". .. . . . .Much of the turquoise found in the ancient cultures
of northern Peru has a chemical signature that does not coincide with
known sources of turquoise in the Americas, leading scholars to believe
that there was a mine which has since been exhausted or lost, the
possibility of which is evidenced by the recent discovery of the iron mine
from which the Nasca got their pigments for their ceramics. . . . ."
What it brings to mind is the turquoise bracelet I saw in the Houston Museum when they had the Egyptian exhibit.a few years ago. I went specifically there to see it because it was turquoise, but did not have any expertize to work with when I saw it. It was a large stone in a wide bracelet for one of the pharoahs, Probably Tut. . . . He is the only pharoah that is questionable with his emphasis on the Sun Aten. . .which most Egyptians I would think prefer to avoid.
No one even questioned why he had a "costly" turquoise bracelet.
