I couldn't resist looking through my library a bit more on this subject.

Here are some more formal references.

Xochipala: The Beginnings of Olmec Art
By Carlo T. E. Gay, Princeton University Art Museum
Published by Distributed by Princeton University Press, 1974
ISBN 0691038775, 9780691038773
61 pages

Xochipala, the Earliest Great Art Style in Mexico
By Gillett G. Griffin
Published by American Philosophical Society, 1972
9 pages

There are two chapters that partially deal with Xochipala
style figurines in the classic edited volume titled:
 "The Olmec and their Neighbors"
One chapter by Luise Iseut Paradis ("Guerrero and the Olmec")
Another chapter by Gillett Griffin ("Olmec forms and Materials
Found in Central Guerrero").

Of course, others on Aztlan could likely provide much more up-to-date information. But these seem to be a few of the classics that are most often referenced.
