Dear Dr. Schele:
I wonder if the word "challa" used by del Rio is the Spanish word
derived from the K'ich'e-Maya word "chay" which means pieces of
obsidian or flint (and later, glass) - See the Christensen dictionary
at http://www.famsi.org/mayawriting/dictionary/christenson/quidic_complete.pdf.
Also, I wonder if the crystallized hearts could have had religious
significance as "sastuns" or seer stones used by the h'men, e.g.
Eligio Panti?
