Dear listeros,

The following is my recent little poem for those who might enjoy it. I haven't come across research information about the markers although they are probably mentioned in detailed studies of Coba. One is a seated figure holding an animal head, in a cartouche. The other is a skull. I'm curious if anyone knows more about them. They are hard to miss on the floor of the ballcourt (Structure D13) furthest from the site entrance.

 Happy New Year to all.

Lorna

Two Markers at Coba

At the place of ball game sacrifice,

A character in a cameo profile

Wearing a jaguar head named Balam,

Is seated cross-legged

On his long curved tail,

Holding on his arm Rabbit's head

Telling him a trickster story.

The Skull plays the foil,

Head planted above middle court,

Presents a face up point of view

For metaphysical questions;

Tells of och ta chan,

 ' He entered the sky '

On cloud shadows passing over.
