Howdy, Listeras y Listeros -

Full info for next weekend's glyph workshop at Texas State is
now on the website, and updated below.

The TSU workshop was originally designed to provide basic glyph
instruction for folks who didnt have the time to attend the excellent
but long and during-the-week U.T. Maya Meetings, and to provide some
preparation for the U.T. Forum. This still the primary purpose. Now,
by request, we have added special instruction to make if more interesting
for more advanced folks, and spiced it up with a segment of really cutting
edge ideas by Barb MacLeod to amaze, delight and terrify you. If you are
considering attending, I urge you to do so. It'll be well worth it.

       Here's the info again:

Peter Keeler has recently retired from 15 years as Director of the
 Maya Meetings Program
and the Forum on Maya Hieroglyphic Writing at the University of Texas at
 Austin
Barbara MacLeod is an expert on Maya Glyphs, who has been critically
 involved in the crucial
breakthroughs in the decipherment of hieroglyphic writing since the 70's,
and continues to be on the cutting
edge of glyph research. She is an experienced caver who has visited and
conducted research in the Naj
Tunich cave.
Nick Carter is a veteran instructor of glyph workshops at both
Texas State University and the
University of Texas Maya Meetings

Day one will focus on an introduction to the glyphs for
beginners, and suitable instruction tailored to the skill level of more
experienced participants, with both groups breaking into small groups for
hands-on practice

On Day Two, We will delve into the realm of the ceremonial underworld
of Naj Tunich Cave--a labyrinth of passages whose artifacts and paintings
testify to ancient visitations over many centuries. We will examine some
of the fascinating images and lengthy hieroglyphic texts to learn what
arcane rites these visitors were performing and how they documented elapsed
time in the ritual space of the underworld.
