Given this weekend's "2012 Conference" in Hollywood, listeros will be
interested to know that there are apparently two major motion pictures
about 2012 in the works.

"2012: The War for Souls," based on the eponymous novel by alien
abductee Whitley Strieber, will reportedly be directed by Michael Bay
with a screenplay by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.  This team created
last year's summer blockbuster "Transformers".

A second film title simply "2012" will reportedly be directed by Roland
Emmerich, who also directed "Independence Day", "The Day After
Tomorrow", and the soon-to-be released "10,000 B.C."

It is not clear whether either of these films will feature scenes of the
ancient Maya or benefit from expert consultation on Mesoamerican
archaeology in a fashion similar to Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto".  ;-)
